Commutating windings. - The commutating poles of a rotary converter or motor converter not provided with a booster have additional windings connected up in such a way that the magnetization of the commutating poles is increased if the main field excitation is strengthened. In one arrangement, the additional winding opposes the series commutating- pole winding, and is connected as a shunt to the main field rheostat. Alternatively, the additional winding may assist the series winding, in which case it is connected in shunt to the main field winding and in series with the rheostat. In another arrangement, Fig. 3, the auxiliary commutating-pole winding 16 is connected at one end to the junction of the main field winding 14 and the rheostat 15, and the other end is connected to a neutral point of the system. At low values of the main field excitation, the auxiliary winding 16 opposes the series commutating-pole winding 13, and assists it at high values. Specification 9280/14 is referred to.
