424,547. Induction machines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Aug. 20, 1934, No. 23987. Convention date, Aug. 22, 1933. [Class 35] In a split phase motor the starting winding together with a series - connected condenser is in parallel with the running winding which is connected to the supply by a tap so that it acts as an autotransformer to energize the auxiliary circuit at increased voltage during starting and a switch is provided to connect the whole of the main winding across the supply for normal operation. The condenser and starting winding may be permanently in circuit or disconnected on reaching normal speed. In the form shown part only of the winding 11 is across the supply during starting when the voltage across winding 14 and condenser 15 is increased but the latter are disconnected when the whole of winding 11 is connected across the supply by voltage responsive relay 13.
