489,760. Packages; wrappers. RADO, L. Dec. 2, 1936, Nos. 33062 and 33063. Convention dates, Dec. 2, 1935 and March 6, 1936. [Classes 94 (i) and 94 (ii)] In the production of air-tight packages, metal foil such as aluminium foil is coated with a thermoplastic mixture such as nitro-cellulose varnish and allowed to dry. After application to the article the seams of the package are sealed by heat and pressure and may be embossed. The foil may be coated on both sides, the melting point of one coating being different from that of the other. A sheet of paper may be interposed between the foil and the contents of the package. The foil may be reinforced by cellulosic material. The sealed part may be used to tear the package open. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a description of apparatus for making the packets. In one form, heated dies having cavities conforming to the shape of the contents are brought together to unite the edges of the sheet. In another form, a web upon which articles are placed, is fed beneath another web which is adhered to it to form a continuous series of packets which may be severed. The dies may be shaped so as to form grooves in the overlapping parts of the sheets. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
