Abstract

1339058 Seaming non-metallic sheet material KRAFTCO CORP 19 April 1971 [6 April 1970] 25712/71 Heading B5K [Also in Division B8] A package comprises a substantially cylindrical multi-ply wall 13 formed with an inner ply 23 and an outer ply 25, means 35 securing the plies at the ends of the package to form end seals and longitudinally extending seal means 15 for the wall having an inner seal formed at overlapped edges of the inner ply and an outer seal formed at overlapped edges of the outer ply, the plies not being interleaved at the seal means. As shown in which the inner and outer plies are heat-sealable coated SARAN (R.T.M.) or other film materials coated with heat-sealable coatings or in which the plies are of heat-sealable material, the plies are stripped from rolls 50, 55 and fed on to a former 57 with the edges of the plies off-set to form marginal strips 27, 29 arranged in overlapping formation. An intermediate ply 45 is also fed to the former 57 from a roller 53. A heated flowable product, e.g. processed cheese is then discharged from a nozzle into the formed tube and the heat of the product seals the marginal strips. An intermediate heat seal 41 produced by a radiofrequency type sealer may also be applied. After filling, clenching bands 35 are applied to the ends of the tube. The package carries a nozzle 7 on a band 19 for extruding the contents.
