[Class 100 (ii)] A cylinder printing-machine is constructed so that the length which the forme bed travels is shortened, and so a large output can be obtained with a clear impression. To attain this object the inking-rollers 21 are moved over the forme to effect the inking, so that the bed does not have to traverse the distance necessary to engage fixed inking-rollers as is necessary when these are employed. The invention is shown as applied to a continuous revolution machine in which a rotating impression segment 3 prints in conjunction with a forme bed 4 reciprocated by known mechanism comprising a gear 12, which engages alternately upper and lower racks 13, 14, and a reversal crank 15 all driven by gearing from a shaft 5 geared direct to the shaft of the impression segment 3. The bed 4'is inked by means of rollers 21 mounted in a carriage 31 which is reciprocated over guides 32 by means of a chain 29 driven alternately in different directions by an oscillating wheel 28 actuated by an oscillating segmental gear 26. The gear 26 is operated from a cam 22 driven from the shaft 5. When the bed 4 comes to rest in the position shown in Fig. 2, the rollers 21 have to move a distance y to the right and before this is completed the bed starts on its printing stroke and no reversal or stoppage of the rollers 21 occurs while in contact with the bed. The rollers 21 receive ink from an ink table 16 while the bed completes its printing stroke and during the return of the bed the rollers pass over the table 16 and again over the forme, and before the complete return of the bed the rollers are reversed and move to the right more quickly than the forme and attain the position shown in Fig. 2 by the time of the next reversal of the bed.
