Abstract
297,605. Hartmann, C. W. Dec. 15, 1927. Cylinder machines ; bedreciprocating apparatus.-A continuous revolution cylinder printing-machine is constructed to drive the cylinder at a non-uniform speed by slowing the cylinder during the feed and delivery of the sheets. The bed is driven in synchronism during the printing-operation, and returns during delivery of the sheet. The shaft 9 of the impression cylinder is driven by sun-and-planet gear from a shaft 1 on which is a, crank 19 which operates a link 20, lever 21, and link 24 for reciprocating the bed. The planetary gearing comprises a vertical shaft 4 driven by . bevel gearing from shaft 1, and geared to a gear 8, Fig. 2, free on shaft 9. A gear 10 integral with gear 8 engages one member 11 of a double gear 11, 13, the other member 13 being geared to a gear 14 fixed on shaft 9. The gears 11, 13 are mounted in an oscillating arm 12 pivoted to shaft 9 and oscillated by a link 16, lever 15, and cam 3, or by means of a connecting-rod operated by a crank-pin 19. The machine prints one sheet for each complete rotation of cylinder 6, and, during the slowing down of the motion of cylinder 6, the bed returns and a new sheet is fed. Although the bed and cylinder are independently driven, they may be geared together during the printing stroke to ensure absolute synchronism.
