Abstract

483,104. Door stops and holders. BENNETTS, J. H. Jan. 7, 1937, Nos. 536 and 6954. [Class 65 (i)] A door stop and holder comprises two plungers 7, 4 mounted to slide at right-angles to each other in a body 3 and connected by means capable of transmitting movement from one plunger to the other so that when either plunger is pushed in the other is pushed out. In the form shown, the connecting means cdmprises a train of balls 17 packed in grease in a bore in the body 3, which is fixed beneath', and projects through, a base-plate 1 ; the body may be formed in two halves separated on the central plane of the bore so that by tightening the screws holding the two halves together the balls may be subjected to friction to resist the movement of the plungers. The plunger 7 has a head 6 to stop the door in its opening movement, and this head may be faced with rubber and may be replaced by a similar head of different thickness to suit a door of different thickness ; the head is prevented from detachment by a slot or groove in the plunger 7 engaging a pin or screw 9 fixed in the body 3. The catch plunger 4 has a bevelled wing 11 so that it can be depressed by the opening door, being raised to the holding position when the door strikes the head 6, and a similar wing 12 may be provided to avoid the need for positive release of the catch in closing the door ; the door is provided with a wear plate 23, which may extend downwards on both sides from the lower edge of the door if the latter is high off the ground. A pair of quadrants 21, pivoted on a pin 22, can be rocked forwards to hold the head 6 in its outward position, thus rendering the catch 4 inoperative.
