Abstract

477,193. Calculating-apparatus. IKE, A. E. Jan. 21, 1937, No. 1854. [Class 106 (i)] [Also in Group XX] Linear measures 1, 3, Fig. 3, are pivotally and slidably connected together. The measure 3 terminates in a ring 41 rotatable about a mounting 11 to which it may be clamped; a graduated plate 43 for indicating the angle between the measures may be angularly adjusted on the mounting to facilitate fine adjustment; the measure 1 is slidable through the mounting diametrically and may be clamped thereto. Means to facilitate fine adjustment of the measure 1 may comprise an opening 16 in a face plate 15 screwed to the mounting 11 and a slide 22 which may be finely adjusted in the opening 16 by a micrometer 26, Fig. 2, until an index 24 thereon is displaced from an index 19 on the plate 15 a distance corresponding to the fractions of units of the desired setting. A window 23 in the slide 22 enables the nearest unit graduation of the measure 1 to the desired setting to be readily brought into coincidence with the adjusted index 24, whereupon the measure is clamped by a set screw 25. The graduated plate 43 is loosely mounted between plates 42, 46 and may be angularly adjusted to displace the index 51 thereon relatively to an index 53 on the plate 46 an amount corresponding to the minutes and seconds of the desired setting by a train of gears 72 engaging an internal rack 44 on the plate 43. Pointers 75 are carried by the gear train. The measure 3 is then moved to bring an index 49 thereon into coincidence with the nearest degree mark on the adjusted plate 43 to the desired setting. Three measures may be combined to form an adjustable triangle as shown in Fig. 2.
