Abstract

[Class 106 (ii)] [Also in Group XX] A precision measuring device for obtaining accurate setting of faces at an angle comprises a pair of discs or cylinders 1, 2 of known diameter diametrally slotted so as to be a sliding fit on a bar 4. The discs may be locked imposition by clamping plate 5 secured to the disc by screws 5a and finally clamped by a screw 5b which engages a metal pad 5c. When discs of different diameter are used, the distance between the centres of the discs is equal to the difference in radii multiplied by the cosecant of half the angle between the common tangents so the desired distance between the centres for any required angle may be calculated. The device may also be used for the measurement of inside and outside diameters by sliding one of the discs until the correct diameter is contacted. The discs are locked in position and the device may be transferred to a micrometer where the diameter may be read off.
