475,873. Windscreen-cleaners. LUCAS, Ltd., J., and HUYTON, A. May 26, 1936, No. 14834. [Class 138 (i)] The invention relates to means for enabling a windscreen-wiper arm to be moved to an unobstructive position when not in use. A wiper arm a, Fig. 1, is mounted on an oscillating spindle c which is also capable of sliding against a spring e pressing against a collar and a sleeve g. Outward movement of the sleeve is prevented by a pin V. Axial movement can be given to the spindle by a finger piece h. A crank i is mounted on the sleeve g and operated by a connecting-rod j similarly driven. Another sleeve k is secured on the spindle c and carries a coupling piece l. Motion is transmitted from the crank i to the member l by a pin m engaging a gap n, Fig. 2, in the coupling. Serrations o, Fig. 3, may be provided on the coupling l. The pin m may be also serrated to engage the surface when the spindle c is retracted and the pin disengaged. The surfaces may however be smooth. When an electric motor is used a pair of contacts p, Fig. 2, may be employed, one mounted on a spring q pivoted to the bearing d and the other by a fixed part r on the bearing. The coupling l engages a recess s to move the member a against a spring t.
