[Class 108 (i)] A vehicle hood comprises a transverse stick hingedly connected to the rear falling pillars, a front canopy member, a series of intermediate transverse sticks connected together and to the rear transverse stick and canopy member by a lazy-tong linkage together with a spring arrangement which is compressed on lowering the hood and locked by the falling pillars passing the dead centre above which they must be raised to allow the compressed spring arrangement to assist in raising the hood. The main hoop 5 is hinged to the pillars 9, the lower ends of which are pivoted in channels 20 formed in the body. To the main hoop is connected the extensible top comprising pairs of cant rails 3 hinged, at each side, about vertical hinges 4 to the hoop 5, front bar 7 and to each other. In addition, lazy-tong arrangements 2 together with hood sticks 1a are provided as shown. The hood sticks may be arranged so as to extend laterally as the hood is extended forwardly and to this end the extensions 28, Fig. 5, are carried by pivot pins on the lazy-tongs. The main pillars 9 may be provided with side extensions which are pressed outwardly by means of a spring. The collapsed hood is arranged to be housed in a recess 11 and each pillar 9 has associated therewith a barrel spring 15 to assist erection of the hood.
