Abstract

885,082. Vehicle hoods. SMITH & CO. (LONDON) Ltd., JOHN, and SMITH, D. J. M. Dec. 30, 1957 [Dec. 28, 1956], No. 39412/56. Class 108(1). A cover for a lorry is supported by hoops 6<SP>1</SP> attached to lazy tong devices on each side of the vehicle. Fig. 1, the tongs being mounted on roller ended uprights 8, 10 slidable on rails 13 fixed to the lorry sides 2, and on fixed and removable uprights 4 and 31 respectively. Sleeves 9 slidable on the uprights 8 and 10 permit the tongs to be extended and collapsed, and tension wires 7 prevent the covering from entering between the tongs when they are collapsed. On a high sided lorry the tongs are provided with extensions 26 and upper and lower guide rails, Fig. 8. The ends of each of the X linkages connected to the forward upright 4 may be secured thereto either by a pivoted joint and a sliding sleeve, Fig. 6 (not shown), or by a pivoted joint and a pin and slot connection, Fig. 7 (not shown).
