475,353. Push - and - pull catches. EREBUS MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., JAMES, J. E., and GLOTHAM, A. May 13, 1936, No. 13499. [Class 44] In a latch of the push-and-pull type, means are provided for retracting the latch bolt when it jams, and to shoot it further to lock it out. The latch bolt head B is attached to the main runner plate C by the springs D so as to be movable relative thereto. An auxiliary plate E is rigidly attached to the head B by means of a slot e and talon b<2>. If the latch jams, a key or follower F acting clockwise on projection e<3> of plate E retracts it and withdraws the head thus compressing springs D, Fig. 3. Removal of the key or follower allows the head to return to its normal position. To shoot out and lock the bolt, the key or follower is turned in an anticlockwise direction ; this lifts tumbler G and allows talon b<2> to pass underneath projection g<1> further rotation of the key allowing tumbler G to fall and projection g<1> to come behind talon b2, Fig. 4. According to the Provisional Specification the invention is applicable to a latch having a bolt operated by a handle or knob.
