Abstract

474,105. Hair - clippers. RABALD, W. Oct. 3, 1936, No. 26881. [Class 131] A hair-clipper, more especially for dry shaving, comprises a hand-held casing 6 containing a motor, a toothed guard 2 of arcuate section, a clipper blade 1 also of arcuate section having knife edged teeth, the gaps between which are of a size about equal to the cross-section of a hair, mounted to slide on the guard in direct contact with the skin, two blade springs 38 secured to the casing and engaging recesses in the clipper blade, a head on each spring for exerting radial pressure on the clipper blade so as to hold its toothed sides against the guard under elastic pressure, and means connected to the motor for reciprocating the blade against the action of the springs. The casing is in two parts 3, 4 and the motor preferably comprises a spring 8 wound by means of a key inserted in a square hole or slot 12 in a winding pin 10, and driving a three-pointed cam 23 through a train of gearing. The cam rotates between plates 30 on an arm 24 connected to an arm 5 pivoted at 25'and entering an aperture in the clipper blade. The two arms are connected by screws 27, 28 permitting an adjustment in the relative positions of the arms. A governor disc 21 on the hub of which is mounted the cam has weights 35 uniformly distributed around its periphery, each weight being held by a pair of relatively inclined blade springs 36, 37 which prevent it from moving out of the plane of the disc. The weights bear against the lining of a brake drum 39 when maximum speed is reached.
