Abstract

748,126. Dry shavers. COMPTOIR FRANCE-ETRANGER. Nov. 27, 1952 [Nov. 27, 1951 ; March 19, 1952], No. 30106/52. Class 131. The casing of a dry shaver comprises a body part, fitting into the palm of the hand and housing a coil spring motor, a neck portion, and a smaller curved part carrying a laterally projecting cutting head consisting of a fixed grid and a rotatable cutter, gearing, extending in the neck, connecting the motor to a driving spindle for the cutter and the smaller part of the casing housing a speed regulator for the spindle. As shown, a cutting head holder 3 is screwed into one end of the two-part casing 1, 2, in which the ends of the spindles of the mechanism are directly mounted, the other end of the casing receiving a box 5 rotatable about a winding shaft 4 and housing a spring 6. The ends of the spring are secured to catches on the wall of the box and on the shaft 4 and a ratchet and pawl device 9, 10 prevents unwinding. A toothed wheel 11, integral with the box 5, forms part of a gear chain 12, 14, 15, 17, 18 to drive the shaft 19 of a cutter. A speed regulating wheel 20 is secured to the shaft 19 and has pivoted inertia blocks 23 with felts 24 which rub on the holder against the action of compression springs 25. Cutting blades 32, mounted on a disc 31 strengthened by a plate 42<SP>1</SP>, are inclined in the direction of rotation and the cutting edges form an angle of 30 degrees with the slots 39 in the grid 38 which are substantially radial and in groups of three, a smaller aperture being provided between each group. The disc 31 is cardan mounted to allow correct centreing of the cutting member and is urged by a spring 29. The 33 slits are preferably made by an etching process giving a funnel-shaped cross-section and may extend over the peripheral edge of the grid. A protective cap 41 is provided. The bearings are lubricated by providing an oil-impregnated pad in the recess formed for the bearing. In a modification of the cardan mounting the disc carrying the cutting blades is mounted on a rectangular-section part which can pivot on a transverse axis with respect to a socket screwed on the shaft 19.
