Abstract

469,495. Cables. WILLIAMS, A. W. March 19, 1936, No. 8203. [Class 36] A cable comprises cores or conductors helically laid about the cable centre or about a central core with a pitch of 30-55‹ and embedded in rubber or like flexible insulating material, the centre or central core comprising a non-extensible longitudinal member. Power cores 10 are arranged around an earth core 11 comprising a non-extensible cord 13. The core 11 comprises inner and outer strands of steep lay surrounding the cord 13 which is formed by strands of short lay bound by a cord 14. The cores 10 may have rubber sheaths 12 of the form shown, or rubber or like pads may be interposed between the cores. The cores may be screened individually or collectively with helically wrapped stranded metal tape.
