Abstract

470,862. Cables. PIRELLI-GENERAL CABLE WORKS, Ltd., and BISHOP, J. L. Feb. 27, 1936, No. 5920. [Class 36] In a flexible cable, more particularly a trailing cable, comprising a number of insulated cores 1, Fig. 1, laid up around a tough rubber or like cradle 2 and surrounded by a common metallic screen 6, the cores are screened from oneanother by metallic screens 4 located within the cradle. The screens 4 may consist of series of wires or strips in juxtaposition and may extend to the axis of the cradle or to the periphery of a stranded wire 3 arranged in the centre of the cradle. The common screen 6, which may be enclosed by inner and outer tough rubber sheaths 5, 8, may be formed of layers of metal wires or strips and whip-cord in the manner described in Specification 420,714. The cradle may be built up from a number of similarly shaped sections, for instance, as shown in Fig. 3, and the screens embedded therein may be curved as shown.
