[Class 36] An electric cable system comprises an insulated conductor or conductors 1 without a lead sheath and a pipe line 4 in which the conductor or conductors is or are loosely disposed, the conductor or conductors and the insulation 2 thereof being submerged in degasefied insulating oil 5 filling the space between the insulated conductor or conductors and the pipe line and being maintained under a pressure of not substantially less than five atmospheres. The insulation 2, which may be oil-impregnated paper tape, may be wrapped with an electrostatic shield 3 of perforated metal tape or other permeable conductive material or imperforate tape wound in open convolutions. The system may also comprise a pump and pressure regulator.
