[Class 36] A seated high-tension cable system comprises one or more conductors 2 having permeable insulation 3, but no lead sheath, a pipe line 1 in which the insulated conductor or conductors is or are loosely disposed, and a degasefied insulating oil 6 under a pressure of not substantially less than five atmospheres and containing loosely packed freely movable solid material 7, the space between the insulated conductor or conductors and the pipe line being partly fitted with insulating oil and partly with solid material. The insulation 3, which may be of impregnated paper, may be wrapped with copper tape ; surgical tape may also be employed to prevent mechanical injury. The material 7 may be sand.
