Abstract
463,898. Fuel-injection pumps. BRYCE, Ltd., and THOMAS, A. H. J. March 5, 1936, No. 6695. [Class 102 (i)] The delivery valve of a fuel - injection pump comprises a plunger 5 loaded by a light spring 6 and contained in a housing 2. The lower end of the plunger 5 is exposed to the pressure of the pump chamber B and is raised so that fuel first flows through ports 12, 11a, groove 13 and port 11 to the delivery pipe and then when this passage is closed through the port 10 which is opened by the end of the plunger. The plunger has an excessive lift and during its closing movement permits fuel to leak back from the delivery pipe and prevent drip. An adjustable stop 7 is provided and the chamber 4 may be connected by the port 15 to the suction side of the pump. In a modification, the port 10 is omitted and the groove 13 is made wider.
