Abstract
461,070. Vehicle luggage and sparewheel carriers. BUDD MANUFACTURING CO., E. G. Aug. 21, 1936, No. 23012. Convention date, Jan. 4. [Class 103 (ii)] A rear compartment, formed by the side walls 13 of the body and the back wall of the rear seat 16 of a vehicle, is arranged to receive a spare wheel 30 and to provide luggage accommodation at the sides and rearwardly of the spare wheel. As shown, the spare wheel rests in a well 28 formed in the floor plate 21 which extends between the sides of the body and at the front is offset downwardly and connected to the body flooring, the, wheel being fixed, by means of co-operating eye and hook bolts 31, 32a and a spider 32, centrally to a cross-member 18 which extends between vertical members 17 secured at their upper ends to a flange 18<1> on a panel 19 forming the forward portion of the top wall of the compartment, and at their lower ends to an angle member 20 fixed to the floor plate 21. The well 28 is made as a separate flanged stamping and is secured in an opening in the floor plate. A cover 25 for the compartment is hinged at its upper edge 26 and held open by a collapsable brace or the like. To provide additional storage space, for example for tools, a downwardly-projecting box 36 normal closed by a removable floor-board 37 is formed in the floor-plate 21.
