456,181. Friction clutches or brakes. BRITISH BELTING & ASBESTOS, Ltd., 59, Southwark Street, London, and SISMAN, E. W., Scandinavia Mills, Cleckheaton, Yorkshire. Aug. 8, 1935, No. 22426. [Class 80 (ii)] [See also Group XXXIV] In a centrifugal friction clutch or brake, friction segments 1, adapted to move centrifugally outwards into contact with a drum 7, are stitched or riveted to or moulded round the end of flexible links 2 formed of belting, rubber, fabric, or metal, the links trailing from and being attached to lugs 3 pivoted on the driving member 4, whereby the segments are free to move in any plane so as to counteract any misalignment or irregular surface of the drum 7. The rivets 5 securing the segments to the links may pass through metal backing plates 6, and insulating material, such as asbestos, may be interposed between the plate 6 and the link.
