Abstract
278,948. Clark, D'A. M., (Bendix Brake Co.). March 9, 1927. Blocks and shoes acting on drums; blocks and shoes.-Relates to the construction and mounting of brake shoes more particularly for brakes of the kind shown in Fig. 1 and comprising shoes 14, 16 mounted on fixed pivots 22, 20, and a third shoe 18 connected to the shoe 16 bv a floating pivot 24 the arrangement being such that the cam 26 applies the shoes 14, 18 and the shoe 18 then applies the shoe 16. The shoes 14, 18 each comprise a band 32 carrying the friction lining and a pair of stamped channel web members 38, 36 forming web portions. A U-shaped thrust member 44 for engagement by the cam 26 is fitted between the members 38, 36, the other ends of which extend beyond the band 32 and are provided with bushes 48 to receive the pivot 20 or 24. The ends of the bushes are riveted over retaining members 50 sleeved thereon. The shoe 16 comprises a pair of L-section stampings 58 spot-welded or otherwise secured together and to a band 54. Bushes 64 for the pivots 22, 24 are passed through the ends of the members 58 which are gripped between flanges 66, 70 on the bush 64 and on a member sleeved on the bush or secured by riveting over the end 72 of the bush.
