Abstract

1394118 Friction clutches LUKLAMELLEN UND KUPPLUNGSBAU GmbH 4 May 1972 [4 May 1971] 20882/72 Heading F2C In a diaphragm spring friction clutch wherein a diaphragm spring 4 is positioned axially between a flywheel 2 and a presser plate 11, and urges the presser plate away from the flywheel to engage driven plate 12 between the presser plate 11 and presser plate 13 bolted to the flywheel 2, a stop member 18 is provided to limit the relaxation of the diaphragm spring to that which occurs at maximum wear of the friction linings to facilitate mounting and dismounting of the clutch assembly. As shown in Fig. 2 the stop member 18 has a portion 19 which hooks through a hole 20 of the flywheel 2, and also has a part 21a which hooks on to the spring 4, the stop member 18 being riveted to the presser plate 11 and serving to move it to the disengaged position on movement of the spring 4 through members 8 and 6. The portion 19 does not abut the flywheel 2 until the friction linings are worn to their maximum or until presser plate 13 and friction plate 12 are removed when the portion 19 holds the presser plate 11, and diaphragm spring 4 in position. Leaf springs 14 interconnect presser plate 11 and flywheel 2 for torque transmission. A further embodiment (Figs. 6 and 7, not shown) has presser p ates 11 and 13 interconnected by the leaf springs and in place of stop members 18 as shown has yokes which extend over the outer edge of diaphragm spring 4, on the opposite side from presser plate 11, and so limit the degree to which the diaphragm spring may relax, there being raised beads on the flywheel against which the spring can act until this relaxation (due to wear of the friction linings) is attained. In this embodiment the two presser plates (and driven plate) may be removed from the flywheel as a unit, without the diaphragm spring relaxing beyond this point. The leaf spring 14 may alternatively extend between presser plate 11 and flywheel 2 as in the embodiment shown. Several constructions are also described of the means by which thrust plate 6 is affixed to spring 4.
