Abstract

454,154. Fluid-pressure servomotorcontrol systems. BRISTOL AEROPLANE CO., Ltd., FEDDEN, A. H. R., and ANDERSON, G. O., Filton House, Bristol. March 19, 1935, Nos. 8587/35 and 61/36. [Class 135] [See also Group XXVII] In a supercharged aircraft engine richness of the combustible mixture is controlled automatically in accordance with the operation of change-speed mechanism in the drive of the supercharging blower. The change-speed mechanism is connected by a link 53 to a toggle 50 in the connection between the pilots handcontrol 54 and an air-bleed valve 66, or a needle valve, in the fuel inlet to the carburettor nozzle 68. The operation is effected through a sleeve valve 44, which actuates a servomotor piston 45, a pivoted link 60 and a piston valve 43 constituting a follow-up device ; a capsule 41 subject to atmospheric pressure superposes an altitude control. Further control by a capsule subject to boost pressure in the induction pipe may also be interposed. The main throttle valve 31 is operated, subject to boost pressure control, as described in Specification 450,587.
