Abstract

451,626. Cooling cylinders. WOOD, H., 18, Overdale Road., Derby. June 6, 1935, No. 16471. [Class 7 (ii)) In an air-cooled engine baffles A<2>, guiding the cooling air at the rear of the cylinders, are formed with slots through which the cylinder ribs project. The welding or soldering of the tips of the ribs to the baffles is thus facilitated, and the baffles act as additional cooling surfaces. An in-line engine is shown in which adjacent baffles are joined together at B and formed with exit nozzles C ; the air passageway between each cylinder and its baffles has expanding or constant cross-sectional area. The air may be supplied under slight pressure.
