Abstract
449,853. Brakes. DELAY, E., and BAYER, L. L., 31, Rue de la Marseillaise, Vincennes, Seine, France. Nov. 30, 1935, No. 33280. Convention date, May 8. [Class 103 (i)] In a two shoe self-energizing brake, the self-energizing effect is limited by a check cam operated by the brake operating mechanism. The brake comprises shoes 3, 4 having cams 11, 12 between the ends. Cam 12 is operated by a lever 13 and is mounted in a slide 18, 19 which on brake operation is adapted to abut against the check cam 23, so that the movement of the shoes and cam with the brake drum is limited by this cam. The cam 23 is operated by a lever 22. The levers 13, 22 are operated by a plate 15 connected to the brake operating mechanism at 16. The connection 16 is made adjustable by providing a number of holes to allow a greater effort to be applied to one or other of the levers 13, 22. The lever 22 is connected to the plate 15 by a slot 25 to allow the lever 13 and plate 15 to return to release position before the lever 22. The cam 11 is mounted on a slide 18, 19 and also on a lever 27 connected by a slot 28 to a pin 29 on the brake back plate so that when the shoes and cam move round with the drum the lever pivots about the stud 29 and the cam assumes an oblique position and separates the shoes.
