Abstract

448,402. Steam turbines. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Feb. 11, 1936, No. 4131. Convention date, Feb. 12, 1935. [Class 110 (iii)] Means are provided for taking care of the expansion of the turbine casing due to heating during operation. The turbine is of the double flow type and comprises a cowl 5 and an exhaust casing 6 formed of welded sections. The condenser 17 is hung beneath, and the casing 6 has extensions 20, 21 by which it is supported. The extension 20 is rigidly connected to a support 22 of the reduction-gear housing 2, and the extension 21 is bolted to a cross plate 28 which is supported by flanges 26, 27. These flanges rest upon cross beams 24, 25 so as to provide a yielding support at this end.
