Abstract
374,365. Steam turbines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Doran, J. H. ; 242, Ballston Avenue, Scotia, New York, U.S.A.) Nov. 16, 1931, No. 31721. Convention date, Nov. 15, 1930. [Class 110 (iii).] In double casing turbines for very high pressures, the inner casing 8 is supported within the outer casing 5 by pins 10 passing through spacer blocks 9 arranged at diametrically opposite points. When heated up, the inner casing assumes an elliptical form. The stationary blade-carrying diaphragms 14, which retain their circular form, are supported within the inner casing by pins 21 arranged in planes at 45‹ to a horizontal plane. In this position they maintain contact with the inner casing 8. Steam enters between the casings 5, 8 but is prevented from flowing through by a flange 8a. Pins 23 prevent rotation of the diaphragms and permit of the upper parts being lifted.
