Abstract
447,508. Endless chain conveyers. BENNIE LIFTS, Ltd., STROBEL, R., and BENNIE, J., 28, Medway Street, Westminster. Dec. 14, 1934, No. 35937. [Class 78 (i)] Means for stopping an endlesschain conveyer, such as an escalator, should the chain break or stretch unduly, comprises a displaceable control member in combination with mechanism which is driven jointly by both runs of the chain to exert opposite and normally balanced forces on said member to maintain it in an inoperative position. As shown, the mechanism comprises sprockets 1, 1a gearing with the rims of the conveyer chain and having fixed thereto sprockets 4, 4a connected by a chain 5 which is deflected by rollers 7, 7a on the control member 6. When abnormal stretching or breakage of the conveyer chain takes place, the drive of the chain 5 is taken over by one of the sprockets 4, 4a, and the chain 5 tends to straighten in one run so as to displace the control member 6 and raise a pin 8a to open a switch 8.
