Abstract

[Class 120(ii)] [Also in Group XXIV] In order to prevent "ribbon winding" in drum winding machines in which the winding drums are driven by a belt, means are provided for slackening or tightening the belt at intervals, under the control of mechanism actuated by the source of power, so as to vary the drive. A belt c transmits drive to drum shafts e and h from a motor a and passes over guide pulleys f, k and beneath a tension pulley u on a pivoted, weighted lever s, which is cam-operated so as periodically to lift the pulley u from the belt c. If the machine should be stopped with the pulley u in its raised position, it may be re-started by depressing a hand lever v so as to press a roller y against the belt c. Instead of being weighted the lever s may be spring-pressed in the direction of the belt.
