437,127. Etching. STRECKER, O. C., STRECKER, G., and STRECKER, O. H., (trading as STRECKER, DR. O. C., [Firm of]), 6, Olbrichweg, Darmstadt, Germany. May 10, 1934, No. 14173. Convention date, May 31, 1933. [Class 100 (ii)] Etching-compositions for use in preparing zinc lithographic plates contain salts of phosphoric acid, nitric acid, and an earth metal, i.e. aluminium, gallium, indium, or thallium, there being in the composition not more than six mols of nitrate ions to one of earth metal ; preferably, two mols of phosphate ions are present to each mol of earth metal ions. In addition, compounds of hydrofluoric or fluosilicic acid may be added. The basis of the composition is aluminium nitrate and ammonium biphosphate, and catalysts, stabilizers, or the like may be added ; the efficiency of the composition may be increased by increasing the relative content of earth metal ions, for instance to the proportion of one to three of nitrate ions, and there may also be added heavy metal compounds, e.g. ammonium molybdate, ferrous ammonium sulphate, or zinc nitrate ; powdered metals, e.g. zinc dust ; nitrites, nitrosylsulphate, persulphates, perchlorides, or pernitrates ; organic compounds, e.g. oxalic acid, sugar, or vegetable gum, these organic compounds also preventing precipitation of earth metal hydroxides from the composition ; or a chloride, e.g. ammonium chloride. According to examples, compositions include aluminium nitrate and ammonium biphosphate, together with aluminium silicofluoride, ammonium silicofluoride, and ammonium molybdate, or oxalic acid. Specification 29037 /11, [Class 100 (ii)], is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers to the production of aluminium plates and states that the nitrate ions in the composition and also the hydrofluoric and fluosilicic ions, if present, must be completely or substantially bound by ions of the earth, alkaline earth, or alkali metals so that the pH value does not exceed 7. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
