Abstract

1359884 Fertilizer compositions containing urea and magnesium compounds FISONS Ltd 9 Feb 1972 [15 Feb 1971] 4689/71 Heading C1B An aqueous slurry in which urea and a magnesium salt or compound form a major part by weight of the solute and the solvent water is provided by the water of crystallization and/or hydration of the magnesium salt or compound, may be obtained by forming an intimate mixture of solid urea and solid magnesium salt or compound containing water of crystallization and/or hydration and allowing the mixture to develop a liquid phase. A concentrated aqueous solution in which urea and a magnesium salt or compound form a major part by weight of the solute and the solvent water is provided in part by the water of crystallization and/or hydration of the magnesium salt or compound and also by added water, the amount of added water being less than 90% by weight of the dry solute, may be obtained by incorporating up to 90% by weight of the dry solute of added water into a slurry as specified above. The magnesium salt may be the sulphate, nitrate, tetraborate or a double salt such as potassium magnesium sulphate. The slurry or concentrated solution finds use as a fertilizer concentrate and may be diluted with water and may contain minor proportions of potassium and/or ammonium salts of nitric, sulphuric and/ or phosphoric acid, potassium chloride, copper sulphate, ferrous or ferric sulphate, sodium tetraborate and potassium molybdate.
