Abstract
435,800. Printing-machines. GILBERTSON, I. H., Woodlands, Manchester Old Road, Middleton, near Manchester. Feb. 28, 1934, No. 6452. [Class 100 (ii)] A box-wheel adjustment for a printing-machine of the kind in which two brake drums are associated with the worm and worm wheel o, p by which the mandrel b is driven from the box-wheel a, is constructed with a shaft geared to the shaft of the worm o by worm gearing and the shaft is controlled by brake drums t, h connected to the shaft by means of a broad gear wheel i in gear with an idler pinion g<1> and with a pinion s. The pinion g<1> meshes with a pinion g on a hollow spindle f supported by an extension e of the mandrel b, and the brake drum h, is secured to the spindle f. The pinion s is carried by a further hollow spindle r to which the brake drum t is secured. The shaft j and the extension e and spindles f, rare supported by a spider-like frame w which is connected to the box-wheel a by means of a rod v, and is supported by the shafts j and the shaft u of the idler pinion g<1>. The brakeshoes z may be operated from a common point by means of one control handle for mechanical operation, or by a switch which operates electric solenoids. A pointer x for indicating the adjusted position of the box-wheel is provided, and the box-wheel is connected to the mandrel by a spring-plunger which prevents axial displacement. The mandrel extension b is keyed to the end v of the printing-roller. Passages 3 are formed in the mandrel extension e and mandrel b to permit of lubrication by means of a grease gun.
