Abstract

The ageing of rubber and the like due to light and heat and particularly to repeated flexing is retarded by the addition to the mix of monamines of the general formula <FORM:0427817/V/1> where R is a naphthyl radicle, R1 is an aryl or heterocyclic radicle, and R2 is an alkyl radicle. Each or all of which may be substituted by, for example, hydroxyl, halogen, or ether groups. Examples of compounds which are mentioned are N-methyl-phenyl-a - and b -naphthylamines, and methyl-a and b -dinaphthylamines. It is stated that the above compounds are particularly effective in the presence of vulcanization accelerators of the type of aldehyde-amine condensation products. U.S.A. Specification 1,825,654 is referred to.
