[Class 68 (i)] In a cutter-chain for a coal &c. cutting machine, each cutter pick is held relatively to a lug on a cutter box through the medium of a clamping plate engaging the pick and having a surface co-operating with a seat on the cutter box to dispose the pick in the desired angular position. In Fig. 1, each pick 44 is held relatively to a lug 42 through the medium of clamping plates 47, 48, and a bolt 49, the plate 48 having a shoulder bearing on a seat 52, the seats 52 in the various cutter boxes being disposed at different angles to give the desired angular position of the pick. Two lugs may be provided on each cutter box to allow reversal. In Fig. 4, a pick 66, with a cutting edge at one or both ends, passes through an inclined aperture in a bolt 68 and engages a slot in a clamping plate 69 held against either of two lugs 67 by a nut 71 engaging the bolt. The lower edge of the plate 69 engages a seat 72 and in different plates is formed at different angles to give the desired disposition of the picks. Only one lug 67 may be provided, the plate 69 then engaging either side of the lug. In Fig. 7, the pick 84 has an integral shank 85 entering a lug 86 and has a diametrical slot engaged by a key on a plate 89 provided with a flat engaging a seat 91 to position the pick.
