Abstract

198,411. Watt, J. Feb. 27, 1922. Bolts and studs.-A key-bolt or cotter-stud for use in securing together ship or boiler plates &c. where only one side of the work is accessible to the operator and of the type in which a key is provided on trunnions in a slot in the bolt., comprises a key 2 having trunnions 3 near its edges which are slidably pivoted in grooves 4 arranged lcngitudinally in a slot 5 in the bolt 1. The grooves 4 extend to the end of the bolt: to facilitate the introduction of the key, and are situated near the edge of the slot. In a mcdification wherein the end of the bolt is completely closed, transverse grooves leading to the grooves 4 are provided for introducing the key and are so situated to prevent their registration with the trunnions when the bolt is in the operative position. In a further modification, shown in Fig. 5, a nut is not provided, and the bolt is employed as a conveniently removable eye-bolt.
