Abstract

420,731. Change-speed and reversing epicyclic gearing. BONN, C. R. H., 56, Gibson Street, Hillhead, Glasgow. Jan. 24, 1934, No. 2441. [Class 80 (ii)] Relates to means for effecting reversed driving in change-speed gearing of the kind comprising aligned driving and driven shafts 2, 3, Fig. 1, and different toothed or friction epicyclic trains adapted to be brought in by braking elements such as 9<1>, 9<2>, alternatively. Upon a carrier frame formed by bolting two discs 13 together and connected to the shaft 3 by webs 14 is supported a first planet gear 7 which meshes with a sun gear 6 fast on the shaft 2 and with an annulus 111 rigid with a brakeable planet carrier 91 of the change-speed gear. Rigid with the gear 7 is a gear 17 interengaging with a gear 18, Fig. 4, revoluble with a stepped gear 19 constantly in mesh with an annulus 11 on a loose brakeable drum 9. Lowest forward speed and reversed driving are effected by braking the drums 91, 9, respectively. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the drums 9, 9<1>, 9<2> &c. are cones adapted to be thrust leftwardly selectively into engagement with a fixed coned casing 1 when pressure fluid is admitted behind the selected drum through one of a series of ports 20. There are a pair of suitable geared selector valves 21 operated by a handle 211.
