Abstract

419,495. Safety razors. DARWINS, Ltd., and BROWN, W., Fitzwilliam Works, Templeborough, Sheffield. Jan. 31, 1934, No. 3210. [Class 30.] A hollow-ground or other thick-backed blade 15 has an adjustable stop, such as a set-screw 20, Fig. 1, or a cam 30, Fig. 4, which bears against a clamping-base 12, to determine the shaving-clearance between the blade and a guard 13 carried by the base 12. The clamping-base is urged upwards, to clamp the blade against an overlying lug 14 on a head 10, either lightly by pressure of a spring 18, or positively by screwing the end 19 of the handle, through the head 10, against a pin 17 screwed to the base 12. The clamping-base is guided by a cup 16 in a recess in the head 10 and carries registering-lugs engaging the rear edge of the blade. In the blade shown in Fig. 4, an eccentric or cam 30 is rotatable in a slot in the blade 15 and is turned by a rearwardlyprojecting spindle 31. A screwdriver 26 is carried in the handle 11 for turning the screw 20 or spindle 31, and the blade has graduated marks co-operating with the slotted head of the screw or spindle. The handle can be screwed directly into the blade at either end 22, to provide an alternative shaving and stropping position and can be screwed into the back 23 of the head 10, for storage. The Provisional Specification states also that more than one stop may be provided, and that the stop may bear on the securing-lug.
