Abstract
418,650. Positive clutches. SOC. ANON. A. SAURER, Arbon, Switzerland. Jan. 23, 1933, No. 2207. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, July 24, 1933]. [Class 80 (ii).] The teeth 13 of a positive clutch member 9 are synchronized prior to engagement with teeth 15 on a member 4 by an auxiliary clutch ring 18 supported frictionally on or relatively to the member 9. Teeth 21 on the ring 18 protrude beyond the teeth 13 so that, on the member 9 being advanced towards engagement, the teeth 21 first engage the inner tips of the teeth 15. The ring 18 is pressed firmly against its frictional seating at 18<1> so that the teeth 13 are brought nearly to the speed of the teeth 21 which is the same as that of the teeth 15. Engagement of the main teeth 13 then follows without shock. An arrangement with plane frictional surfaces and an embodiment in change-speed gearing are described.
