Abstract

417,906. Vacuum closures for tins. DETTE, R., Nieder-Ingelheim-on-Rhine, Germany. Jan. 11, 1934, No. 1078. [Class 125 (iii).] An air-tight closure for use with preserve tins which have already been opened &c., has a flange 8 provided with a number of inwardly bent reinforced tongues 9 which engage under the beaded rim 10 of the tin, and a sealing gasket 6 of rubber. The central portion 1 may be provided with an annular depression 2 so that it can bulge upwards during boiling. The corners 11, 12 of the tongues may be inwardly bent or a medial rib may be provided as a reinforcement. It is stated that the contents of the tin remain sterile after boiling with the lid in position.
