Abstract
415,849. Valves. THOMPSON BROS. (BILSTON), Ltd., and MEREDITH, J. W., Bilston, Staffordshire. April 24, 1933, No. 11951. [Class 135.] A foot valve assembly for a fuel tank comprises a lift valve member H mounted on a spindle J extending through a guide in a member D adapted to slide within, or align with, a housing or guide box A which carries, or is integral, with the valve seating a<2>. A tubular strut E surrounding the valve spindle forms an abutment for the loading spring K and is housed between a socket d<2> in the top of the member D and a similar socket f formed in a fitting F detachably secured to the top of the tank. The fitting F closes an aperture g<1> in the top of the tank large enough to permit the withdrawal of the member D and also houses a spring loaded vent valve. The valve spindle is in two parts connected by a nut having right and left handed threads, whereby the length of the spindle may be adjusted. Apertures are formed in the strut to give access to the adjusting nut and the member D and box A have apertures d3, a' to permit the egress of liquid. The valve member has a resilient packing washer h and is coupled to the spindle by a ball and socket connection. The top of the guide box is flared to facilitate the insertion of the member D or the member D may be arranged to slide over the guide box.
