411,329. Printing - surfaces. JOACHIMCZYK, M., (trading as TELLSCHOW MASCHINENFABRIK, GEB.), 27, Grunauer Strasse, Berlin. Aug. 30, 1933, No. 24066. Convention date, Sept. 5, 1932. [Class 100 (ii).] A process for producing relief rubber printing- plates for rotary printing-machines consists in curving the matrix, with its impressed surface on the concave side, to a radius greater than that of the printing-cylinder which is to receive the printing-plate, pressing the rubber plate against the curved matrix. and vulcanizing the plate while in contact therewith. The distortion of the design on the matrix produced by its curving is compensated by the distortion in the opposite direction when the plate is applied to the printing-cylinder. The Figure shows a suitable vulcanizing former for making the plates. The rubber sheet a, preferably with a stiffening backing sheet b of textile material, is placed on a cylindrical block f of larger diameter than the printing-cylinder with which the plate is to be used, and is covered with the matrix k which bears an undistorted design when in flat condition. A covering plate l is arranged over the matrix and pressure is applied by three pressure heads h, i, g, pressure being first applied by the central head h and then by the side heads. In a modification, the matrix is laid in a concave bed and the rubber plate pressed therein by a single convex pressure head.
