Abstract
405,342. Friction clutches. DUVERNOY, L. L., 16, Cite Moynet, Paris. July 28, 1933, No. 21297. Convention date, Aug. 5, 1932. [Class 80 (ii).] The engagement of a friction clutch is effected in two stages, first under the action of a spring acting directly on the presser plate and then under the added action of the same or another spring acting on the presser plate through pressure-multiplying levers. In a single-plate clutch, a spring 8, Fig. 2, is arranged between the presser plate 7 and the inner ends of radial levers 9 pivotally mounted on the cover plate 12 of the driving member 1, the outer ends of the levers engaging with play in an annular groove 14 in a flange of the plate 7. The sliding control sleeve 15 is pressed against the levers to effect disengagement. On release of the sleeve 15, the spring 8 acts directly on the plate 7 until the play at 14 is taken up, when the levers function to increase the pressure. In a modification, the spring 8 is arranged between the members 7, 15, the outer ends of the levers 9 are pivotally connected to lugs on the plate 7, and the inner ends of the levers engage with play in an annular groove on the sleeve 15. In the form shown in Fig. 3, a spring 16 acts directly on the presser plate and a second spring 19 acts through levers 20 when play at 14 has been taken up.
