Abstract

Aluminium-silicon alloys containing 7-15 per cent of silicon contain also up to 5 per cent, preferably less than 1 per cent, of magnesium, with or without up to a total of 1 per cent of one or more of the metals manganese, chromium, nickel, cobalt, tungsten, titanium, molybdenum, and vanadium, there being no intentional additions of copper or calcium. The alloys may be heat-treated by heating for up to 24 hours at 140-185 DEG C.; this treatment may be preceded by heating for about 4 hours at 500-520 DEG C. and quenching in cold water. Specification 199,048, [Class 72, Iron &c.], is referred to.
