Abstract

391,070. Making foam. MARTIN, S. M. and THOMPSON-MARTIN CORPORATION, Ltd., 27, The Grove, London. Dec. 1, 1932, No. 34072. [Class 47 (ii).] Apparatus for making foam comprises means for causing jets of water and jets of a saponaceous or like solution, both under pressure, to impinge upon one another in a chamber in which a current of air or other gas under pressure is flowing. A current of air enters a cylinder 1 at one end. A body 9 mounted centrally of the cylinder comprises a partition 12 formed with radial passages 17, and two chambers connected by ports 13 and formed with inclined walls 14, 15 having converging jet orifices 16. Water supplied by a pipe 4 issues from the orifices 16 in jets which impinge on radial jets of saponaceous solution supplied by a pipe 3 and issuing from the passages 17. A pipe connected to the other end of the cylinder conveys the foam directly to the point of use. Mixing blades or vanes may be arranged in the foam pipe. The air, water, and solution are supplied by pumps.
