389,780. Knitting. HEMPHILL CO., Central Falls, Rhode Island, U.S.A.- (Assignees of Baugh, J. H.; 2214, Allen Street, Chattanooga, Tennessee, U.S.A.) Dec. 7, 1932, No. 34682. Convention date, Dec. 16, 1931. [Class 74 (ii).] The selvage top of a plain knitted stocking consists of picot loops 21<1> and long loops 15 interlocked so as to prevent running down. This top is single-ply and, as the result of the finishing operations, non-curling. Waste courses, retained throughout the finishing operations, including boarding, to protect the picot edge, are knitted on alternate needles and terminate with a pull course 11 after which the inactive needles are restored to draw long loops 15 for one course. The portions 21<1> are prevented from running by the loops 15 which are interlaced with the floats 22, 23 and the portions 211.
