Abstract

386,815. Pistons ; connecting-rods. VANNI, P. G., 30, Via Solari, Milan, Italy. March 3, 1932, No. 6467. Convention date, March 9, 1931. [Class 122 (i).] In a piston for an internal-combustion engine a conical member 11, inserted between the gudgeon-pin 7 and the piston crown, engages the latter by means of its base 15 and a central column 17. The apex of the member 11 may screw into the gudgeon-pin, or may make a spigot and socket joint 9 therewith. The connecting-rod 22 is bifurcated and engages the under surface of the gudgeon-pin. The latter is supported in the walls 5 of a box which is secured by means of a screwed ring 16, or otherwise. The curved ends 6 of the box engage the interior of the piston skirt. Cooling oil, supplied to the interior of the member 11 by passages 24, 10, 18, passes by perforations 21 to the piston walls. In a modification a conical member 11, without a central column 17, is formed integral with members 6 engaging the piston skirt and carries gudgeon-pin bearings on its under surface. In this modification the connecting-rod is not bifurcated.
