386,754. Air - heaters for stoves. HEMPELMANN, O., 20, Almstrasse, Hildesheim, Germany. Nov. 23, 1931, No. 32453. [Class 126.] An air-heater for stoves, kitchen ranges, boilers, &c. comprises a vessel 1 arranged in the combustion space and provided with an air inlet 4 and outlet slots 5, the vessel being filled with balls 3 or similar small bodies in layers of different materials, the size of the bodies and the depths of the layers being varied to suit the firing conditions. As shown, the balls in the upper layer 18 are of copper, those in the layer 19 of iron, and those of the layer 20 nearest the fire are of porcelain or other refractory material. The degree of heating is adjusted without varying the quantity of air by altering the size of the bodies or the thickness of the layers. The filling bodies may be of bean or reel shape and may be perforated. The vessel may be arranged horizontally and have a central longitudinal partition.
