This invention relates to a hypodermic needle kit and more particularly to a continuation-of the invention disclosed in my copending application filed November 26th, 1930, Serial No. 498,322.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a hypodermic needle kit of simple inexpensive design capable of supporting and pro-- tecting hypodermic needle parts when not in use and further to subject the same to a sterili ing action previous to use thereof. 7
An object of the invention is the combining in a unitary article of a supporting case, a heating device and a sterilizing device. 7
Another object of my invention resides in the novel manner of designing the lid and box so that they may be interconnected with each other for concealing and protecting the needle parts and capable of separation and support whereby the needle parts may be arranged in a sterilizing solution and heated.
A feature of my invention resides in the use of solid heated elements in combination with a novel design of kit parts whereby a hypodermic needle may be carefully supported and capable of being instantly sterilized under all conditions.
Besides the above my invention is distinguished in the unique manner of designing and manipulating the lid and box so as to provide a support for the box and for the heating element, accomplishing this desired objective at a minimum manufacturing cost.
With these and other objects in view the in vention will be better understood from the following detail d description.
Figure l is a perspective view of the box in closed position.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of-the box in said open position.
within the box 1, when not in use; The same protection can be accomplished by wrapping the needle parts with various materials.
Telescopically connected to the box 1 is a lid 3 designed in a unique manner to enable thesame to perform the dual function of a lid forthe box 1931. Serial No. 513,303
and a support for the box. To accomplish this desired objective and at the same time materially reduce production cost I have designed the lid 3 of a unique construction to be provided with transversely extending projections, supports or beads l. The surface wall 5 of the lid is depressed preferably at a central point between the beads to provide a fire grate 6 provided with a plurality of perforations 613 to stimulate combustion. To provide cross ventilation, I arrange air inlets 7 in the said walls 8 of the lid. The inlets 7 also provide cross ventilation to protect from heat the surface upon which the lid may be supported. Various forms of solid heating or fire elements may be utilized with this particular type of my invention but for the purpose of illustration I have shown these elements 9 in the form of discs 10 which can be formed solely from a combustible material or impregnated with a highly inflammable fluid such as alcohol in which case the discs are hermetically sealed until used.
In my above mentioned copending case I am protecting a paste form of fuel and in this particular application I am protecting a solid form of fuel in the combination, but I wish it to be understood that the grate 6 may be formed without the perforations 6B and a liquid fuel utilized depending upon which is the most advantageous in practice. As there are only three forms of fuel adaptable to my invention, that is to say, a liquid fuel, a paste fuel and a solid fuel, I wish it to be understood that these various types of fuel are to be included in the scope of my invention. Of course, it is to be understood that the lid may be specially designed to function as a gas generator for heating the box but this would involve a considerable increase in production cost.
In the use of my invention the lid 3 when removed from the box 1 is arranged in the position illustrated in Figure 2 to enable the box 1 to be supported directly upon the beads l.
Supporting the box on the beads 4 separates the bottom of the box from the top surface wall of the lid so that a space will be provided for the heating element during. the heating of the sterilizing fluid such as water, in the box. I have shown the fire grate 6 depressed so as to accommodate greater space between the fire element and the bottom of the box but I wish it to be understood that the fire element maybe supported in other ways between the spaced surfaces of the lid and the box. When the parts have been set up as just mentioned, a sterilizing fluid such as water is arranged in the box and the needle parts submerged therein. After this has carry out the principles of my invention, the main object of the present invention being to accomplish economical manufacture of the article without sacrificing any utility thereof.
Therefore, I do not desire to be limited in protection in any manner whatsoever, except as set forth in the following claims.
What I claim is:
1. A hypodermic needle kit comprising a box, a lid for the box provided with air inlets in the side walls thereof, a centrally depressed fire grate provided with perforations and supporting beads extending transversely of the lid in spaced relation, said box adapted to be supported on said beads.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a hypodermic needle kit comprising a lid, supports projecting from the top surface of the lid, a box adapted to be arranged on said supports and a heating element supported by said lid in spaced relation with the bottom surface of said box, said lid provided with air inlets in the side walls thereof and adapted to be telescopically engaged with said box for closing the same.
ALBERT A. EPSTEIN.
